BA in Jurisprudence

​Background:
The City University Law degree aims to develop in students a high level of skill in comprehension, analysis and presentation. Students are expected to read assigned materials, think through their presentation and defend their conclusions and views in class. 





Law at City:
The City syllabus comprises of topics chosen primarily for their relevance to the post conflict nature of Somalia and for the myriad of laws applied in Somali courts including the penal code inherited from colonial powers, Islamic law and customary law that is commonly used in rural settings without courts.  

Topics Covered:

​Course work in the first year includes:
  • Introduction to private law
  • Criminal law
  • Constitutional law
  • Islamic Law
  • Customary conflict resolution methods. 

2nd, 3rd and 4th year courses include:
  • Tort law
  • Contract law
  • Trust law
  • Land law
  • Administrative law
  • Jurisprudence
  • Internship in law offices or courts
