City University has established links and partnerships with the engineering firms inside and outside the country to provide internships for its students. Civil engineers students use state-of-the-art information technology to understand and apply the nexus of construction, transportation, energy, water, and land. The students at CU will be able to design and implement different civil engineering projects that are reliable and cost-effective. The program has been developed in line with ABET Accreditation Agency learning outcomes.

Career Opportunities

What is civil engineering? Civil engineering deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and built environment such as roads, bridges, dams, canals, and buildings. What do civil engineers often do? Civil engineers design and build bridges, roads, railways, large and tall buildings, etc. They provide water supplies, control pollution, and respond effectively to natural disasters. In short, we depend on civil engineers for the built environment we need for our daily life such as our country's infrastructure.

Where do civil engineers often work? Civil engineers might work for the different levels of government: local, district, region, and national. They might also work in the private sector such as in consulting firms or on an individual basis. Civil engineers spend only a portion of their time on the construction site. They usually spend much of their work time in their offices designing, modeling, problem-solving, and meeting clients. As a country emerging from prolonged and devastating conflict, there will be a dire need for civil engineers in Somalia in the foreseeable future.
