Application Procedure for the Master of Social Work (Mental Health Specialization)
Step 1: Ensure Eligibility
Before applying, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements:
- A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a recognized university.
- A Cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 for your BSW degree.
- Proof of English language competency, meeting one of the following minimum scores:
- TOEFL: 60
- IELTS: 6
- Duolingo English Test: 100
- Alternatively, pass the Advanced Level City University English Language Competency Test.
- Must be a refugee or displaced person and a resident of Mogadishu or surrounding areas.
- Female applicants are encouraged to apply.
Step 2: Prepare Application Documents
The following documents must be submitted as part of your application:
- Certified copies of your Bachelor of Social Work degree and official transcripts.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty members, detailing your qualifications for the MSW program.
- A current CV outlining your academic and professional background.
- A Personal Statement (2-4 pages, double-spaced) addressing the following:
2.Your career goals for the five years following graduation.
3.Anticipated challenges in completing this rigorous full-time program and your strategies for academic success.
4.If employed or planning to work during the program, an explanation of how you will manage the field placement requirement.
5.Your intended contributions to your cohort and the MSW program at City University of Mogadishu.
Step 3: Submit the Application
Submit your complete application package via:

- Email: [email protected] by September 9, 2024.
The submission should include all required documents listed above.
Step 4: Sit for the English Competency Test
If you do not have valid TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores, you will need to take the City University English Competency Test.
Step 5: Attend an Interview
Once your application is reviewed, shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with the MSW Admission Committee. The interview will assess your suitability and readiness for the program.
Step 6: Application Review and Decision
Following the interview, the Admissions Committee will review your entire application. Successful candidates will receive an official offer letter from the university.
Step 7: Enroll in the Program
If accepted, confirm your acceptance by the stated deadline in the offer letter. Subsequently, prepare to commence the program, which includes coursework and a supervised field practicum.
Note: All accepted students must complete 36 credit hours over four semesters, including 600 hours of supervised fieldwork, prior to graduation.
Mode of Delivery: Onsite classes at Downtown Mogadishu Campus (Abdiqasim Area, Hodon District, Mogadishu).
