MA Conflict Resolution, Governance & Peace building
The graduate program in Conflict, Governance and Peace building (CGP) will prepare a new generation of researchers and practitioners, equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge on conflict, governance and peace building issues. The CGP will contribute towards building durable peace and functioning governance systems in Somalia by offering a Master of Arts Degree in these subjects, a post-graduate diploma, and short-term training courses focused on specific mediation and conflict resolution skills. The CGP will also commission and/or conduct local and regional research in the relevant areas of conflict, peace and governance.
Research Agenda
The priorities of the CGP for the following five years will reflect the educational and research objectives. The faculty and fellows of the CGP, through qualitative and quantitative methods, will focus on the following themes:
1. Mapping of the different levels of conflicts and conflict resolution mechanisms in Somalia.
2. Investigate the challenges in governance and good governance problems (different national and local institutions).
3. Identify and analyze peace building activities (state-building and the challenges associated with it).
4. Investigate modern, customary and Islamic conflict management mechanisms.
